Borrow and Share

Save Money, Space, and Resources

Do we really need to own everything we use just once in a while? Items like projectors, pressure washers, steam cleaners, and extra glassware for a party take up space, cost money, and put a strain on natural resources.

Instead, borrow what you need! Transition Buxton’s Library of Things – the first of its kind in the area – offers a wide and wonderful range of items to rent for a very small fee, reducing waste and saving money. The Library of Things began as a concept in 2014, with a mission to “make borrowing better than buying for people and planet – more affordable, convenient, socially-rewarding.”  Some people even donate their own equipment and borrow it back, creating more space at home.

Toolshare: Borrow DIY Tools in Nottingham

Nottingham’s Toolshare project lends specialist power tools, workbenches, and cement mixers—items that can cost up to £200 to buy. It’s completely free for local residents saving them money and the trouble of storing and maintaining the tools. The project also offers DIY workshops and expert advice to help people improve home energy efficiency.

Sharing is smarter, cheaper, and greener! Find a Library of Things or a Toolshare project near you.
