Nottinghamshire Community Renewables
Nottinghamshire is home to a pioneering sustainable housing community and a major community solar initiative.
Here we showcase the renewable energy initiatives that are up and running in the county.
Sustainable Hockerton: A Pioneering Community
In 2006, villagers in Hockerton (Newark & Sherwood) set out to reduce their carbon footprint. They formed Sustainable Hockerton, raised funds through community share offers, and installed:
-
225kW wind turbine.
-
87kW solar PV panels.
Profits from selling electricity to the grid and feed-in tariffs support local sustainability projects.
As community energy pioneers, Hockerton Housing now offers consultancy services to help others develop their own renewable
energy initiatives.
