Wonder Walls: The Key to Energy-Efficient Homes

While new homes in Derby are now generating more energy than they consume, most of the houses we’ll live in by 2050 have already been built – many without modern energy-saving standards.

To meet climate goals, hundreds of thousands of homes across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire will need to be retrofitted for greater efficiency.

Why retrofit?

Retrofitting means upgrading your home to improve energy efficiency, reduce heating costs, and replace fossil fuels (gas, oil, coal and wood) with clean, renewable energy.

Heat Loss Facts

  • 40% of heat escapes through walls.

  • 25% of heat is lost through the roof.

That’s why insulating walls and roofs is one of the most effective ways to cut energy use and lower bills. This ‘fabric-first’ approach ensures that when you're ready to install a low-carbon heating system like a heat pump, it will be smaller, more efficient, and cheaper to run.
